1977 Evinrude 55hp 2cylinder do I need to dissconnect gear linkage to drop lower unit
I need to drop the lower unit on an 1977 55hp Evinrude. I know some motors have an access plate on the side of the motor so you can dissconnect the gear linkage. I am doing this job as a favor to a friend and the don't have a manual, so I was hoping to get a little info on the job from the forum. I greatly appreciate any info.

On this motor the shift rod disconnect is at the top of the shift rod, under the carburetors.
Take a look at the gearcase diagram and the cylinder and crankcase diagram on the BRP Parts Catalog sites. You can print them or download to Excel if you want.
