Hi Everyone I?m changing the water pump in my 68' Johnson. 9.5

I took the four bolts off; the lower unit dropped enough to get at the shift con.
Took off the hex bolt for shift connecter (it separated)
Still the lower unit will not drop?

Am I missing a step?
Do I Have to move the fly wheel etc.

I took this on as a Hobby

Any help will be appreciated
This is my first mechanical attempt on an outboard

The driveshafts stick in the crank if the top wasn't greased and/or the o-ring was not replaced.

Put the bolts back in and tighten it to where there is a little play in the gearcase, then run the engine a little [with water, of course]. That will sometimes loosen the driveshaft.
