I replaced my transom this weekend, the previous owner has made a repair and added approx 3" to the top.
I am curious how do determine the correct height for a transom. the boat is '71 Glastron V191. 119' length, Trihull, 150 Evinrude O/B.
any thoughts?
thanks
Jay

Re: How do determine Transom height

the standard heights are 16 and 20. from the keel to the top of the transom. it totally depends on the engine you use. a short or long shaft. they probably add the height inorder to accomodate the 150.

Re: How do determine Transom height

you need to determine the shaft size of the engine, measure from the point the engine would sit on the transom to the cavitation plate on the lower unit,it will be 20 or 25 inches, that would then determine the distance on the transom, should be the same, might be an inch or two,you can make that up by the mounting holes onthe engine, you want the water to flow from under the boat ,under the cavitation plate
