I have a 1988 Four Winns with a OMC 350 engine. I have to replace the engine and I know that some of the older engines are a little different. I know I probably should put a marine engine back in but I think I have a GM truck engine found cheap. What I need to know is does it need to be near the same year or will an older engine work????

You should stick with the same vintage engine if you want all the OMC specific brackets for alternators, linkage, PS pumps, etc. to work.

Ayuh,.....

The Issue you need to deal with is,......
1986 was the Last year of the 2 piece Rear Main Seals,....
And, 1987 was the 1st year for the 1 piece seals........

IF your 1988 boat has a 1988 or 87 motor,... You need a motor with the 1 piece seal......
The Best way to Tell is Look.......

I definitely agree with Bond-o. The major issue is the rear main, although even if they are different it doesn't kill the deal; you'll jsut have to get the correct flywhell and coupler. The front accessory mounting holes are all the same. Oh, and the fuel pump mount was eliminated on some blocks.
