choosing an electric trolling motor

I am building a plywood jon boat. It weighs about 200 to 250lbs. What would be a resonable size elect. transom mount motor for it? It will be on lake taneycomo in mo. waves are not a factor and will probably not go more than 1/2 miles up or down the lake. I have my eye on a motor guide 34# thrust motor. Or would something larger be better. Thanks

34# will be adequate but for those distances you should have the largest deep cycle battery you can find (as well as a good set of oars). Have you considered a 2 or 3 HP gas motor rather than the electric. The entire package would be lighter.
