posted earlier broken bolt from lower unit got advice on removal of bolt after unit removal problem is i have the other 3 bolts still in ex housing how do i get the other 3 out do i use heat how much heat to apply or any other ways to get them out can you use mapp gass or do you need a torch and small rose bud tip ?
any thing that will help so i can get lower off to try and fix the one broken bolt in exhaust housing mech say
may have to replace ex housing

The trick is to heat the aluminum along the length of the bolt. The aluminum expands and eases up on it's grip on the bolt.

You want to get it as hot as you can as fast as you can. Without melting it of course.

MAP gas is an acceptable choice. I've used acetylene with good results. Propane won't do it. What FR said. Cast aluminum is a funny animal when it comes to heat. IT WILL MELT. And it goes with little or no warning.

I like the mapp gas with one of those trigger start tips.It would take longer for the mapp gas to melt it,if it even will.But it does give enough heat,once you get it to move,be sure to just go back and forth taking a bit more each time,have patience,it can take a while,but worth it.If you know someone or have an air ratchet,the vibration breks up the salt and corrosion,a 3/8 shouldnt break the bolt ,as said,be sure you heat the area that surronds the bolt NOT the bolt head,where the threads are
