I have a 1996 Crest II Pontoon 22' w/Johnson 50HP. The steering is VERY stiff compared to other pontoons. I tried lubing the horizontal shaft that runs through the pivot on my outboard with Merc Triple Guard as recommended on other posts, but it is still stiff, triple guard seems almost tacky to me??!!? Under the helm on the cable is stamped "MORSE 30441 180IN 7026," I am guessing that the 180IN is 180 inches or 15ft cable length. My question is should I replace this steering with a new teleflex Safe-T QC steering or can my existing cable be disconnected somehow at the helm and lubed? Is it worth messing with a 10+ year old Morse cable? Any help / Suggestions are appreciated, thanks

i'd rather see you use the nofeedback, safe t that way you don't have to fight the torque of the engine, if you remove you hand the wheel does not automatically turn from the engine torque.
