I have 3 wire tilt motor for the 1970 , i need to troubleshoot. it is wired up directly the battery and dose not work.. it make sounds and dose not move when power is applied by using the switch in any direction. i have 12v a battery and other systems on the boat work. the switch test good use meter (beep)
in both direction.
low/ no fluid in motor will it cause not to work?
Dose anyone have a good readable schematic? FOR 3 wire tilt motor?
Dose this 3 tilt system require solenoids? or can you hook up directly to the battery?
Should have a black control box with a solenoid in it, also hot and ground wire straight to the battery and 5 smaller wires going to the tilt/trim switch and indicator. Try taking the wires straight from the pump and hooked the black to ground and the green or blue to hot, NOT AT THE SAME TIME. Black -/ green +, then black -/ blue +.
which is ground... it sound like black?
hook the that negative the add one of the other wires and in should work or the motor is bad? or can the fluid level affect operation?
also , i only have tilt no trim on boat. there are are 3 wire out of motor that run to the switch and split off and run to the battery? can this config. still work?
enemy of your trim motor is water. of all the systems that I have rebuilt only one motor has been worn out from use. the rest have died of cancer (rust caused by water getting inside). It's a shame, but most trim motors die because a $1 seal gets too old to keep out the moisture.
Hook your motor directly to battery. Black to negative and either blue or green to positive. Do not hook both blue and green to positive at same time. If motor spins but nothing happens then you are either out of fluid or have a worn out pump (aka valve body). If motor does not spin then you prolly have rust on the inside. To fix properly field frame will need replacing or coils removed and old field frame blasted down to white metal. If pump then look for someone who can rebuild it. They're intricate little devices but fully rebuildable by someone with parts and know-how.
thank for your response , i need to retap the rusted thumb screw some jack into the fill port motor the outside seal show no side of leaking any in the system .
i going to check the inside , i have good background for motor repairs this should be a problem to apply my knowledge to this problem.
thank again
my manual just dos not cover these motor, do have any info on file
what kind of pump is it? I haven't dug into calco pumps yet so I don't yet know how to fix them. If prestolite then I can bring them back from the dead.
