Got a 95 bayliner runabout with a 5.0L 305 mercruiser. I have been taking it to a dealer to winterize and de-winterize but decided to de-winterize it myself this season with the help of a friend who has de-winterized this popular motor many times. I found 2 plastic nuts, and 2 metal bolts sitting on one side of the block. On the other side of the block are two holes with threads, but these 2 bolts do not fit in these holes. I don't know if anything is supposed to screw into these threaded holes, but there is a small pool of oil next to one of these holes. The dealer has a "fuzzy" memory. Any ideas?

Thank you

You have about 4 water drains

1 on each side of the motor block and 1 under each exaust manifold

IT has been done a LOT of different ways so and exact answer is hard

Since I posted earlier today, I got the pix on photobucket and I found a home for 2 of the metal bolts, but not the plastic nuts.

Those Blue plastic wing nuts probably go into the tee coming out the bottom of the exhaust manifolds. I would imagine you found a home for the brass plugs in the block, one on each side.

One note. those plastic plugs should be replaced, along with the orings. They get brittle and break after a while, and those look like they have gotten hot before.

Also those plastic plugs can be replaced with brass plugs from any hardware store if you can't find new plastic ones...
