high rpms but low speed

boat ran great end of season when i moved boat from fla. to n.c. now after all the winter junk out of engine and no sputters why low speed and above wot rpms ?.....have only 70 hours on the 5.0L mercruiser. always serviced in fla. by dealer. what gives ?....

My guess is a spun hub on the prop....
Take a magic marker or nail polish & mark the propn nut & the prop itself....
If they do not line up after a run under load, you need to get re-hubbed......
If not that I would suspect the engine coupler......;)
Any sign of overheating?
