evinrude 120 fly wheel prob

what would cause a fly wheel to keep coming loose and shearing the key stock done it twice and i torqed it to speck both times

Flywheel nut must be torqued to 140-150 ft lbs. 190-204 N-m.

thats what i did but it keeps coming loose i took sand paper and cleaned it all off i will try it again is there any thig that would cause this

Several things will cause this.

Let's start with the basics. What did you use the sandpaper on? Not the crank or flywheel taper I hope.

yes i just cleaned off the goop i thoght that might be the prob i used 1000 grit it bearly shined the metal

The flywheel and crankshaft mating surface must be clean and dry, no goop, or oil. Use Evinrude gasket sealer on the threads of the nut. You can lap the two surfaces with a fine valve grinding compound.
