Did I miss something or did Seloc? I am about to replace my impeller in my water pump. I will use the impeller replacement kit offered by Mercury. In reading my manual it instructs how to remove the bolts to drop the lower unit. It does not say anything about a shift rod ( as I am familiar with on OMC's). After removing the bolts on the lower unit is there not also a shift rod to deal with? Where does it seperate or disconnect? Appreciate your replies,Thank You.

My 850's shift rod is splined and slips into the lower unit. No need to mess with it.
