Howdy!
Well Dudes, after much deliberation I've settled on the Merc package for my repower. (I can hear you sighing Don)
If I had a bigger chunk-a' change (or, a 'whack' more money) I'd probably go with the Volvo.
But... my mechanic (a Merc/guy) who'll also be doing the install and servicing the boat has beat the crap out of the local Volvo guy's (saving me about $3/K) with the 4.3 MPI/Alpha setup.
A guy could buy a whack of brewski's with an extra $3/K!
He's already pulled the old powerplant - original 1980 factory install - and found a cracked block and manifold. I knew that old 305' was an anchor.
The good-news I got yesterday was that the engine-beds and transome are still rock-solid.
Phew...
So, today I'm off to bend-over for my banker - what's with the rubber gloves, Milton? - then I'll cut my mechanic a cheque so he can order the new mill.
Could be sea-trials within a week.
I'm pumped!
Cheers,
Terry
