i have my first mercuriser. not first boat . i got a ton of $$ tied up in motor because old motor was a rust bucket and everything was bad. but i see on ebay and boat mags. new gimble housing's for like 2k for alpha 1 and would like to know when you replace these and why..the shop put a new gimble bearing in for me..motor is going in next week . but it would be nice to give me a short answer. thanks in advance. i live in the city and its super hard to do motor work. but at the marina i can do what i want . so i keep jobs small as its outside.
thanks bob

If they are broken, or corroded beyond use. Such as where the bellows attach.
If the shop didn't say there was a problem when they installed the gimbal bearing, it's "PROBABLY" ok, or they should have said something.

It's rare for them to corrode beyond use.....
If you kept it moored in salt water year round, & didn't keep up with the sacrificial annodes, that would be bad.....
But if you are keeping it in the Delaware for the season, you should be OK....
I would think the shop would have said something, if it were bad........:)
