Default Mariner 45 starter and tilt just start to click

I tried different batteries and the bilge pump still works. I came home and dad wanted me to work on his boat and I'm at a loss.

Starter just makes a click and same for the tilt on the motor. Any ideas? I can't afford to send it anywhere.

I'm going to guess that you have a corroded battery cable or two. If it gets bad enough, it doesn't allow enough amperage to pass. All you need to test it is a test light. Test at the battery and see how much it dims when you toggle the trim or try to start. It shouldn't dim much if at all. If it dims a lot, you have a huge draw problem with both the trim motor and starter motor. Or the battery capacity is weak.

Then test at the live side of the starter solenoid. First time with the test light grounded at the battery and the second time with it grounded to the block. If it dims a lot with it grounded to the battery, you might have a bad positive cable. If it dims a lot with it grounded to the block, you might have a bad negative cable.
