I have bought a 2000 merc. 4 stroke 90 hp.
The story behind it is the boat it was mounted on sank in its slip(saltwater) the motor was submerged for a very short period of time.
The motor was preserved according to mercury reccomendations.
Now that I have it on my boat I can start it which it starts very easy but whenever there is any throttle added it will backfire through the prop and also the carbs but not at the same time.
most of the time just poping sounds but sometimes enought to stop the motor.
What I am reading on the boards says that the carbs are real delicate and are prone to dirt but I have not heard of them backfireing.
Can this be a Crank trigger or can someone point me in the right direction.....Clinton
