Default pontoon pitch with insane tach....

I have a 94 parti Kraft 20 ft pontoon boat. It has a '77 70 HP johnson on it.From what i have heard from others I need a prop in the 11 to 15 pitch range. It has a 14x17 on it now that came from the runabout that it was previosly on. I just bought a 14x13 prop from my dealer. He said that is what his chart called for. My tach is a faria, and does not seem to correspond with anything. It shows for example, 2400 rpm at idle and 7200 rpm all day at wot. If it were in fact running 7200 rpms I suppose i would be asking about more than just a prop. Any suggestions? And tia...........Jeff

Check your tach connections OR get a new tach for an accurate diagnosis.

There's a selector switch on the back of the tach. You may need a small screwdriver to turn it. Change the setting until the tach gives you a more normal reading. (The switch adjusts the tach to the number of cylinders.)
