I have a 1990, 40 HP Johnson. The engine is in the down position and the auto trim will not work. How do I bypass the trim in order to raise the engine?
Look on the side of the port transom bracket for a recessed, slotted screw. That is a manual release. Turn it counter clockwise at least three turns. You should be able to lift the motor manually.
