I finally found the Welch plug berried under a mouse nest and ided my motor. It’s a 1988 Evinrude 90 hp. I have a question of curiosity. Is this engine a lopper or a crossfire or anything like that?

Actually it's a crossflow. Nice, reliable motor. Well....once you get rid of the mice.

looper, i've got the same engine only stripped of the Vro 88spl. great engine.

Definitely a crossflow. I own a 1989 88 SPL, that has been a great outboard. Take care of her and she will take care of you.

Thanks for all the comments; they’re all reassuring and good to here. However I think I’ve got a ways to go to call this engine reliable. I’ll start a new post and go into details.
