Ive got an older Merc 65hp w/ jet pump. I did a compression check and top cylinder has no pressure. Middle and lower were between 155 - 165. How hard of a job is this to fix. Can it be done by a home mechanic w/ a shop? Are parts available? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks,

The worst part of the job is removing the thing from the hull. If you get a mercury manual not aftermarket and follow it you shouln not have alot of trouble if you have basic mechanical skills and tools. Parts are available here and many other online site as well as dealerships
Woops it just dawned on me you have a jetdrive outboard so that solves the getting it out of the hull

Serial no. 4382579 can anyone give me the year of this motor. I called a local shop and all they could do was narrow it down to 3 or 4 years.

Also generally what does a repair like this cost in parts.

Thanks,

1976, parts depend on what you find the problem to be
