I have a 1923 Johnson 2HP Model A

I don't know how to get the flywheel off, I removed the one center nut and stud and tried tapping gently. Do I need a puller?

Also I am removing the power head, I have removed the four bolts but it doesn't want to separate from the bottom. Does the bolt in the shaft housing need to be remove, I though both of these would separate but the didn't. I don't want to break something. Thanks for any help.

You might want to consider taking the question over to the antique outboard club's Ask-A-Member. aomci.org

A puller is highly recommended to remove the flywheel. WIthout equal pull it can be a pain.

OK, th flywheel I got with a puller.

How about takinfg the powerhead off from the lower unit?

I took the bolts of but it wont budge?

Don't these usually just come right apart?

it does take a little power to get it to lift, the gasket sealer,or some exhust carbon etc.could be holding it.if the lower unit is still in place it too will give some resistance, try some gentile prying, but be SURE ALL bolts are indeed out.

Re: Trying to remove power head and flywheel.

There is only the four bolts that I removed, are we sure it is made to come apart that way?

I was able to move it about 1/4 of and inch sideways, not up and down.

That movement should have let loose the gasket holding and carbon.

I am afraid.

It's a 1923 Johnson Model A "Water-Bug" a real gem.
