Hello. I was wondering if anybody out there knows if I can change around my Mercury 200, 20HP to electric start, and if so, how do I do it ? Or is it cost effective to sell it amd buy a motor with electric start ? Thanks, Dave

Motor sn is : 4823029.

PS< I am also looking for a prop for this motor, how do I know what to get. no #'s on old prop.

Merc doesn't have any starter kits for motors of that vintage, and electric start wasn't an option on that motor when new. So it looks like you are stuck with the rope start with that motor.

The standard prop for that SN was a 2 blade 11" pitch

Believe it or not, I saw one with an electric start 2 summers ago. It was on there from new. Apparently they were indeed available, but I can't vouch for yours specifically. It may be model-year specific. Regardless, in 30 years I've only seen the one. They gotta be dang hard to impossible to find. Try www.tcoutboard.com.

I have a 1973 merc 200 (20 hp). Mine has an electric starter on it and full controls...it used to be a tiller. now i use the rope tho...its far more effe3ctive and dosent drain your batter. New starter Motors are only about 50$ canadian... if you are going to install one then make sure you have the manual. it will tell you how in there.

Does anyone know if there is a thermostat on the impelar on these motors?

my best freind used a starter from a brigs riding mower and we made mounts 4 it on a 1973 merc 200. 20hp works pretty good sometimes it skips,
