I noticed at last years winterization that my No1 plug was black when all the others were fine. I do a lot of trolling so 3-5mph for protracted periods. Do you think the constant low speed is causing the problem?? maybe No1 runs hotter being further from the water pump??? The overall performance of the motor is great so I'm not really concerned but may take time this year to break up the trolling sessions with some WOT.

Any thoughts??

The top cyl should run a little warmer if anything, and yes the engine should be cleaned out once in awhile, what model 115 is it

As far as a additive ck with a Mercury dealer, but yes it could have a injecter dribbling it is a common problem on autos
