It was an unseasonably warm day yesterday, so i decided to put some fresh gas in the tank and run the outboard.

everything was fine until i tried flipping the Tilt/Run Lever back after putting around. Darn plastic lever broke off in my hand, and there was not enough of it left to get a grip with a pair of pliers to try it turn it. Of course its stuck in the locked position so i can't tilt the outboard back up out of the salt water.

1- Is there a quick fix so I can tilt the outboard back up? (Some other way to unlock it?)
2- Any hints as to how to replace this part?

1993 6 HP Johnson Sailmaster (long shaft) Outboard

TIA !

pull the tilt/trim adjusting pin on the transom mount. but you need to get the lever fixed. brp evinrude, literature, engine diagrams, follow prompts to your motor, to find part #.

Welcome to iboats. tashasdaddy is trying to show you how to get engine diagrams and part numbers at the brp evinrude site without getting into trouble here with the mods. Follow his instructions.

I really do not see what the objections are to posting a direct link to the Parts catalogue on the BRP website.

We are apparenty allowed to give partial addresses though. That for the parts catalogue is
epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=E

Copy and paste that tothe address bar and everyone should be happy.

you can post direct links here as long as they don't sell parts. iboats sells these also and it would interfere with their business. Look at the top of the page and you will see. I'm all for protecting this site as it has helped thousands of people for free and saved them untold dollars and quid literally throughout the world.

Yeah, that thing isn't very good. Mine broke but instead of being locked in the down position it isn't locked at all. Kinda creates a dangerous situation in reverse.

When i asked about posting links and the fact that the sticky at the top of the index asks us not to I got the following explation from Ancient mariner "JB"
Whenever a direct link to any commerecial enterprise is clicked from the iboats bulletin board it is monitored by search engines and negatively affects iboats' priority in searches for boat related sites.

Thus, it is irrelevant whether a link is to a competitor or not. Clicking it hurts iboats interests because it suggests that iboats could not satisfy the member's need.

A referral (non-clickable) has no negative effect.

If you sense of courtesy allows you to refer a member to a direct competitor. . . .well . . .um, no comment

getting back on topic, i figured out (a temporary) way to fix this. basically where the plastic tab handle broke off, i used a drill and 1/8 inch bit. i drilled around and created a slot in the plastic, just big enough so that i could get a flat head screw driver into it.

its temporary but i'm able to flip the tilt run lever back and forth with the screwdriver.

Much better when you go in reverse for sure.
