Do you think that North Korea will abide by the new agreement within the 6 party talks now that China is invloved, unlike when clinton did the deal 1 to 1 with them?

Maybe yes Maybe no. Somebody I like said: "trust but verify", (ol' RWR I think). It's worth a chance, (as it was when ol' Jimmy did it with NK). Unlike Bro Haut; even though I don't like Jimmy C, I tend to blame our enemies, (that actually break agreements, cut off heads, blow up children), not our side Democrat or Republican: which seems to be the favorite tact o' the left, (most of whom just want America to loose if they can use the MSM ta blame any nearby Republican for the defeat/failure et al). I don't think Bro Haut wants us to loose 'cause we all know he does not like those Saracens. JR

I don't believe them. They've lied in the past, and their actions between their last lie and this one certainly don't lend much credibility to this claim.

I say "nuke then verify" (that they're all dead, that is!)

I think they have more to lose now that China is invloved in the process. China makes or breaks them and when NK did the nuke test after China told them not to, it made China angry and that can't be good for NK.

I don't like it. This is a terrible deal, unless your NK.
We give them what they want and they promise to eventualy dismantle their nuke program? WTF kind of deal is this? I like GWB but this is may be the stupidest thing he's done as President. (Only the disasterous prescription drug program gives it a run for it's money.)
I agree with John Bolton, this sends the wrong signal. The NorKor's didn't even wait for the ink to dry before backing away from the deal.
"Trust but verify"? this is "Trust and hope for the best"
Just hours after announcing the agreement — which clearly states North Korea must "shut down and seal for the purpose of eventual abandonment the Yongbyon nuclear facility, including the reprocessing facility" — Pyongyang issued a statement claiming it had agreed only to a "temporary suspension" of its nuclear program.

"At the talks, the parties decided to offer economic and energy aid equivalent to 1 million tons of heavy fuel oil in connection with the DPRK's temporary suspension of the operation of its nuclear facilities," the Korean Central News Agency said, referring to the country by the initials of its official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

It's certainly worth a try. I'm not sure how much leverage China can exert. But anyone thjinking that somehow we can force, thru fear, Countries to capitulate to our demands are dreaming. It's going to cost to get them to comply--And with NK having a million man army, a negotiated settlement is going to cost a lot less than a military one.

Time will tell, but at least it is a hopeful sign.

Yes my Liberal, (no racism meant here PW2), Seattle area friend, I agree with you! At least this time we don't give then Nuke power plants, and they allready let some of the genie out o' the bottle. Can't hurt to try, and with Japan, Russia, SK and China in the deal it does at least stand a chance. Respectfully JR

It should be clear by now that our insistance that they talk with their neighbors and not just us was a correct move.

China has a lot more leverage than we do. They have nukes and ICBMs, their army is bigger than the entire NK population, they represent virtually all of the aid and trade gotten by NK and they live next door.

NK wouldn't even exist except for China. They are a stepchild and I believe they will behave.

Agree...but we should be specific. It was the Clinton administration that gifted them with the technology. They would have obtained the technology anyway, it was just easier and faster getting it from the Clinton admin.

I think it is fair to say that most of their posturing has been to get some benefit, that part is obvious. It is also obvious that they will eventually go back to their nuclear ambitions. They are a starving country lacking in assets, what they are doing is a survival reflex. Once they are fed and warm, its nuke time again.

We can only continue the diplomatic process though for the time being. A war with them would be horrible and our South Korean allies would be the ones to pay the most for it.
