One mechanic says sneezing is from a lean lower cylinder due to a leaking crank seal. And I do see black goo in the bottom of the case.

Another says this sounds fishy and not sure if it requires splitting crank or change in place.

Do all Forces require splitting the crank do fix the seal?

The black goo is where exactly? the bottom of the "case" ?

Has anyone checked the sparkplugs?
Particularly the bottom one, and compared it to the next one up?
Has anything been done with the lower carb to try and remedy the sneezing?

Has anyone done any compression tests?

Diagnosing a bad crank seal is a bit out of my comfort area, hopefully more opinions will be coming.

Yes, bottom carb was richened up and fixed the sneezing. Motor now running good with all power, but idle a little rough. Plugs are carboning/splattered black faster than they should be. The black goo is pooling at back of motor, where I would describe as the motor mating to the lower unit.

I bet the crank seal is fine.

But the gasket between the powerhead and the adaptor plate may be leaking.
