Re: TOP SPEED OF TOHATSU M 40 C

I had one of the fastest modifies 40 and 50hp tohatsu motors that I raced with on a zapcat racing inflatable with a max speed of 60mph with the 40hp ....

Not sure what you are looking for, but since you have some numbers from the highend/racing, here are some "real" boat reality numbers. I get 32mph with a 14' Starcraft Aluminum modified V (Nissan 40C). If I raise the engine a little more and go to higher pitch prop, could get mid 30's. With a lighter, faster hull boat, probably touch 40.

Deejay, what pitch prop are you running to get 60mph? Just curous, and assume it a racing specialty item.

How fast can you go with an Tohatsu M 40 C engine regardless of boat type?

I can go 28 mph with my Nissan 40C on a 16.5 ft Alumacraft bass boat with 2/3 people. Others say that I ought to be able to do more. I dunno.

Re: TOP SPEED OF TOHATSU M 40 C

The record for a 40 C is 63.7 mph set back in the late 80's. That was for an unmodified one. The APBA here in the U.S. did not have a modified class so there is no proof of what any one of them modified would do. One of the Japanese told me they had one in Japan they played with and had it up to 76 mph. Maybe true, maybe yank the Yank. But the 63.7 was a verified speed trial in Sport C set by Terry Rinker.

I am running a custom 16p clever prop, you can't compare a heavy 16 foot boat to a 13,5 foot inflatable that weighs 150 lbs .....

DeeJay, interesting... given I run a 11-12 pitch props, was guesing to hit 60mph you would be running a 20 pitch prop or better. Do you change the gear ratios in the 40C?

He does not have a 40 C. He had a 40 D which was a three cylinder engine with nothing in common with the 40 C.

Re: TOP SPEED OF TOHATSU M 40 C

You are right I use to run the M 40 and M 50 not the 40 C, and yes we changed the gear ratios, running a 16p or 15p prop ......
