Creamy white crumbly stuff

Is this creamy white hard crumbly stuff in my water pump salt buildup? (Bottom right of waterpump)

Put it in a container of water between your finger-thumb and work them back and forth. If it dissolves then I'd say yes. Doesn't look like alum oxide (corroded alum) as the castings look to be in good shape.

What else would it/could it be?

Water may contain many minerals other than common salt (sodium chloride). I suspect that the deposits are a variety of water borne minerals, including salts.
