TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Iranian troops have shot down a U.S. pilotless spy plane recently, an Iranian lawmaker announced on Tuesday as the Islamic Republic was facing increasing military pressure from its arch rival -- the United States.

The aircraft was brought down when it was trying to cross the borders "during the last few days," Seyed Nezam Mola Hoveizeh, a member of the parliament, was quoted by the local Fars News Agency as saying.

The lawmaker gave no exact date of the shooting-down or any other details about the incident, but he said that "the United States sent such spy drones to the region every now and then."

SECOND U.S. AIRCRAFT CARRIER

The announcement came amid reports that the United States is increasingly flexing its muscles to counter Iran's growing regional assertiveness and put more pressure on Tehran over its controversial nuclear programs.

It was reported Tuesday that a second U.S. aircraft carrier, the USS John C. Stennis, will arrive in the Middle East in about one month, the first time since the U.S.-led Iraq war in 2003 that the United States will have two carrier battle groups in the region.

Now we know why Bush appointed an Admiral to overall control of US forces in this region.... (nice catch Haut, saw it earlier when you posted)

Me thinks we will patrol the border between Iran and Iraq night and day and kill anything that moves, or has a temperature.

Armageddon approacheth. :%

I remember thinking way back when the majority spoke but we got Bush anyway, "Wouldn't it be ironic if Bush ended up stumbling us into Armageddon after we chose somebody else." Would it have been different if Gore took office, or is it preordained no matter who won?

Gore is a completely unreliable nutburger, you may hate GW but at least he is very predictable. It's time you recovered from the 2000 loss Willy, the electoral college did elect W, (and that is our system; ALL OF OURS). Respectfully JR

"trying to cross the borders?" Ever seen an aircraft "try to cross a border?" What, was it swimming a river or something?

So Iran looked around for an arch-rival and picked the United States? that's it's own punch-line.

Well, the dims want us out of Iraq. Let's just do a reprise of Sherman's march. Half go to the Indian ocean by way of Tehran, the other haf to the Med by way of Damascus.
Scorched earth should give us about 10 years before we have to do it again.
