CMC PT130 Question

My power tilt went out on my 1977 Johnson 70 HP & so I got a cmc pt130 & had it installed. It works fine but actually I think my boat, a 15 1/2 Bomber Bassmaster ran better with just the power tilt, seems as if the cmc added lots of weight. I found a part for my power tilt & now it works again & I'm debating pulling the cmc off & going back with the oem power tilt only. What's your opinion?

Re: CMC PT130 Question

I only had power tilt only so I thought the cmc with tilt & trim would be good which it did ok but it added so much weight to the back of the boat it ran better without having trim at all.

Re: CMC PT130 Question

I have one on my 16ft Super Sidewinder and like the way it worked out.

When you add setback as will happen with the CMC unit you need to raise the engine up some. How much, depends on how your setup was to begin with.

On mine I was able to raise the engine up an additional 1 1/2" in other words my A / V plate is now 3" above the bottom of the hull. Keep raising up one hole at a time and test run the boat keep an eye on the water pressure, max RPM, and when Water pressure drops or you no longer see an increase in speed lower it back down one hole and that should do you right.

Hope this helps.

Re: CMC PT130 Question

The CMC power tilt n trim(130) only adds 40 lbs of weight.72Sidewinderss has it right, you can go up quite a bit from bottom of hull.Yes OEM is better, but the CMC unit is a great option fo those who only have manual tilt.
