My experience is that SS has thinner blades which are more efficient, are usually cupped, sometimes have ventilation holes for hole shots, and sometimes have complex blade dimensions to improve a certain aspect of operation. Most alum don't have all that even though Hustler is an exception.

With all that said, you may experience more mph and more rpm's simultaneously.......happened to me. You can go to the archives and get tons of data in answer to your question.

I switched to SS and a big improvement, but,,, the other day at a boat repair shop , I saw a lower unit, with a big hole, .
what I heard was the boat was leaving a launch ramp and water was shallow, , the SS prop hit something hard, like concrete or a rock, wiped out the lower end,
so, I am extra careful,
I did see a SS prop on a online catalog,, with some sort of break away hub, like the newer merc props have,
this may be the safer way to go.

I had a '72 125 Johnny. I could not keep alum props on that engine. Every time I turned around I was dinging the prop on something and sometimes is was as small as a 2" sapling under the water.

So I went to SS, have been running them (on lots of different boats) ever since and must be lucky cause I haven't put any dings in them in all those years. I think the lower unit damage is the exception rather than the rule. Now if you boat on a lake with lots of rocks then I probably would go with alum and if so you might check out the Hustler high perf alum. Sell em here.
