Hi, I don't have much knowledge on chrysler outboards, but one of my friends that come to visit often at my holiday house have this 17ft bowrider with a chrysler 140hp, I have never seen this motor pump water ever .... He drives this thing all day long and been doing so for the last 3 years without any problems ..... water will lightly come out the discharge hole, that's it, It actually have a little pee-nossle but inside the motor it is not connected to anything nor have any place it can connect to, it is quite a simple engine design but I really can't figure out if maybe the previous owner added this nossle for show because the motor has been re-sprayed ....... anyway .... can anyone please just shed a bit of light on this for me .......

Re: 140hp chrysler Q?

Must be an add-on. Chryslers never has pissers. The twin exhaust relief ports on the backside below the lower cowl were the main indicators. Some brands only spray water out those reliefs when the boat is moving slow, then most of the exhaust and spray exit the prop once the boat is on plane. The Chryslers are a bit different in that regard as googobs of water will exit those holes when the boat is on plane.

The impeller is probably identical to the one Mercury used for many many years in their larger inline-4s and all of their inline-6s and early MerCruisers. Once Mercury took on the line, I fully expected them to have identical part numbers as well. But they don't leading me to believe there must be something different about them. Danged if I can see it.

The previous owner probably had intentions of tapping into the cooling system to connect the pisser but never finished the job. Look for a 1/8 pipe plug on top of the block near the head, or on the water jacket cover on the head. I don't see any on the parts diagram, so one can probably be drilled and tapped rather easily. Then all he needs is a proper fitting and some aquarium or speedometer hose.
