1997 mercruiser mcm 262 magnum efi gen+
After hanging on the lift unused for two months it won't start. Have good cranking power, safety switch is on and i hear the relay, have gas at intake to carb, see spray coming out of nozzles in carb, have spark at plugs. Tried starter fluid and never get any firing of engine.
I think I might have coil or other ignition problem. my neutral switch is ok.

Re: 1997 mcm 262 magnum efi gen+ won't start

My internet was down all day.
The plugs were moist but not flooded. I tried 2.
The plugs looked normal color with slight yellowing.
I don't know if the gas is good. not quite sure how to know the quality of the gas.
I investigated the two injectors and was suprised how little fuel really comes out of them during the starting process. I looked at the spark at the plug and then looked at the spark on my Suburban truck and to me the spark looked the same. I tried starting fluid again and at this point I still haven't had a single indication of any cylinder firing
How do you really know the spark is hot enough.

STOP USING STARTING FLUID

IF you actually had spark on the spark plugs, then the starting fluid would have made it fire and probably stop the cranking dead in it's tacks.
How did you check for spark?

When was the last time it had a new cap, rotor, and spark plugs.
Do you have a service manual?

Re: 1997 mcm 262 magnum efi gen+ won't start

I took out a plug and grounded the plug while turning the key and observed the spark accross the gap. A new rotor and cap in October 2006. I had just added a freshwater cooling system and they changed the parts then. I do not have a manual.
I had the boat out in the Gulf of Mexico in October. I parked it on the lift and went back to Wisconsin. It was running fine when I put it away. It's a wonder how it just won't go. By the way this is my usual luck with boats. I think it's time to paddle it to the launch and take to thr pros. I can only imanine what this will cost.
I am in Hudson Florida.

Thanks, Art
