I have been looking at 2 new Evinrude Ficht outboards at E-Bay - they are brand new old stock

One is a 2000 and the other 2001 (Not Bombardier - both are OMC units)

I know about the many problems with the Ficht OB`s - are the 2000 and/or 2001 engines reliable?

Are there any major differences betwean the 2000 and 2001 115 hp?

Ordinarily I would say go ahead because the problems that vexed the early models involved mostly the V-6s built in 98 and 99. But 2000-01 are the bankruptcy years. They were assembling motors with parts that might've not quite met quality standards in better times just to get product on the market. You'll get no warranty whatsoever.

A nearby outboard manufacturer buys competitors models for evaluation and I've had to bring a few back to life after they've auctioned them off years after the fact. They sat around all that time with unstabilized gas and were nightmarish to finally get to a point where I felt comfortable letting them out to the customers that brought them in. If you do decide to go for it, it's a Let the Buyer Beware kinda thing.

I'd feel better if they had low hours than no hours.
