plenty of power but slow forward movement

Have a 97 Evinrude VRO 90,getting plenty of power to prop but takes forever to get going,barely moves but will fly when it finally gets going.Can anyone help me figure this out?

Hey bkinsler, welcome aboard!

Let's get a little more info here. When coming up on plane, does the bow ride high? Are you using the TNT....trimmed all the way in on throttle up and as the boat comes up you start trimming out?

Just to get an idea, where is the anti-cav plate, the "fin" that sets just above the prop, set in relation to the keel of the boat with the engine trimmed in?

What's the WOT rpm once it gets up on plane?

Tell us how long you have had the rig and any maint history on the engine. Do you know if it set for a while before you got it?

If it barely moves it doesn't have plenty of power. What style and pitch prop is on this motor and what type of boat are we talking about. "Flying" when it gets on plane means different things to different people. How fast is "flying".

Check for a spun prop or one starting to slip under load.
