I am going to remove the volvo penta DPA-230 outdrive to sell. I have never removed it before and was wondering what the process is to remove it. The engine is already out. Any help would be great.

Thanks, Will

Re: How to remove a volvo outdrive?

1. Remove 2 screws and pull pin between helmut and upper gear box.
2. Remove back cover and disconnect shift cable from drive linkage. Remove connector from end of cable.
3. Remove lock bolts for pivot pins that drive tilts on.
4. Remove pins from trim cylinder rod ends.
5. Disconnect ujoint bellows from drive.
6. Disconnect exhaust bellows from drive.
7. Support drive so it can't drop but is still almost all the way down.
8. Turn steering all the way to one side.
9. Drive the tilt pins toward the bellows. Use a brass drift on the pins. DO NOT use steel or they will swell on the ends and you will NEVER get them out.
10. After the pins are out, back the drive up and disconnect the cable from the drive (7/16" wrench) and remove the water hose.

It's off.

Thanks Don,

I'll go give it a try. I decided to sell the boat instead of fix everything and just buy a newer, smaller boat. Just for an idea, about what should I ask for the outdrive? It is a DPA 230, with stainless props. it is in good condition aside from some paint chipping.

Thanks

Yeah, I looked on ebay and I could only find one duo outdrive.

This one is a bit different than mine. Also, mine has a gear ratio of 2.30. I have been told that this is a diesel ratio. Is this ratio less desired, and does it effect the value? Sorry to sound so ignorant. Thanks for all the help
