hi,
the outboard was not circulating water, so I put a new water pump kit and new thermostat (the thermostat housing was very dirty).
now it is pumping nicely, but when I open up the throttle (above half way) the outboard stalls right away.
is this related to the water cooling system, which might be partially clugged somewhere?
or a dirty fuel system or malfunctioning fuel pump?
any ideas?
how do I check for all the options?

Re: mariner 8hp stalls when open up throttle, in gear
hi,
the engine is a japanese made 1984 8hp mariner.
compression is 110psi in both, spark is fine too.
I noticed that too much exhaust is coming out from the opening on the shaft (gurmmet) where the connector of the shift lever is.
I have the impression that the exhaust opening might be obstracted somehow.
does anybody know where exactly it is in this model?
it is not behind the propeller.
Re: mariner 8hp stalls when open up throttle, in gear
the carb and carb jets are ok.
the outboard's plastic cover was painted.
is there any ventilation on the cover, that paint could block, so now at high rmp's the carburator can't suck enough air?
