Default Smoking 90 Evinrude 90 h.p.

Is smoking normal for 2-cycle engine? It smokes when idling but I never took it to water. It starts not from 1st sec. and runs OK (no shaking). I am a car mechanic, don't know about 2cycle engines. Thanks.

hope you're using muffs for a water source. if it's idling good on muffs, turn the idle up before going to the water. on muffs, there is no backpressure on the exhaust, so you think it is perfect. when you launch, and now have backpressure, and try to start it won't. idles too low.

Be more concerned if it doesn't smoke!

They will smoke a lot less if the thermostats are working properly.

Too much smoke at start-up is sometimes indicative of recirculation check valves that are not functioning.

TCW-3 Synthetic oils are preferred by a lot of the fishermen here. The consensus is that you get less plug fouling and smoking.

Stop putting oil in the gas, it'll quit smoking. It'll probably stop doing a lot of things. Like turning over.

Seriously, all good advise. I use a synthetic blend in my motors (all carb'd) and the injection system. They smoke at initial start up, especially after sitting a week or so. Then it's not very noticable at all.
