Working on my outboard last night and pulled the starter rope right out of the thing (I guess it was time to go - better in the driveway than in the swamp). In any case, after fiddling around with the thing for more than an hour I realized that putting the thing back together exceeds my limited mechanical skills.

Can anyone explain how the rope goes back into this thing along with how to wind up the recoil spring?

Any advice would be appreciated.

We need the model number of the engine.

Joe Reeves had a tutorial on how to do it with the least amount of pain. If I can find it, I'll post it....

Is that an old 30, like 1956? Or a newer one than that?

Anyway, when the rope breaks it will destroy the spring about 99% of the time.

Come up with a model number and we will tell you how to proceed.
