Finally I have found a forum with knowlegeble members d:)
I recently bought a small Shetland boat with an Yamaha outboard engine. The motor works nice.

I want to take good care of it.. but I don't even know how old the engine is. I was hoping to find some good literature or repair / owner manual on the internet.

No luck so far.
Is there a good site like an outboard repaircourse ?

(equivalent to http://www.dansmc.com/mc_repaircourse.htm
DAN'S ONLINE MOTORCYCLE REPAIR COURSE)

thank you... it is a start
(it is older then I thought - it works and purrs as new)

My Swedish is not that good. But I still can order four nogat icecream and count to ten...

Now I can find information on the official Yamaha site.
Do you know it is stupid te leave the outboard on the boat in the winter? How do they do it in cold climats... here in Holland everebody advises me to bring it indoors,,,, I would like to leave it on and have fun on the water as long as there is no ice.

You can leave it on the boat but leave it down so it can drain completely. If you leave it in the water you will need to thaw any ice that forms around the lower unit or you may damage the impeller if you start it with it frozen.
If the boat is on a trailer simply leave the motor down.

Great engine, I still see the same 28hp yummies every now and again, they are almost exactly the same as the 25 and 30 hp yummy from those years, great runners .... I would mix it 50:1 though and not 100:1 as it says on the motor ......

8) Thank you all!

If I look inside it looks like it is new. I start to get more confident in the little engine. Unbelievable it is that old.

Not a bad idea to burn a little more oil - with old mopeds it does wonders
