I have a 1999 mercury 125 max rpm is 5250. My question is does this have a rev limit protection? Wide open throttle I rev to 5500 and it starts sputtering. If anyone knows that would be great!

No there a no Rev limiter, watch the battery voltage at high speed on some engines it will get up quite high (15+ volts) and can overheat the stator causing a miss

Don't know where you got your info Laddies, my man.

My Merc Service Manual for Serial No's 0D283222 and above which covers thru the '98 model year for the 80 hp jet, and propdriven 100/115/125 hp and above, shows Item "p" in the wiring diagram to be an "RPM Limiter".

That's interesting that they have it on those 4 cylinder engines, as on the 3 cyl's (like I have) there is none.
----------------------------
Id for the limiter can be made by the wiring color code: 4 interconnect wires to the module; Purple, Brown, Black/yellow, and Blk for ground.

Figure that one out.

Mark, I checked in a Rapair book and it didn't list one for the outboard but it did for the jet but the Mercury manual does--Bob ???

Well, he can check fast enough. I gave him the info on the wiring color code and he can look around for the module. If he finds it..........wala. If not......nada. d:)
