I finally got my engine rebuilt after buying an 19 ft Sunbird (sitting 3 years). The engine wouldn't turn over after installation- come to find out the outdrive (1st generation Alpha) is frozen up. I removed it from the boat and started dissassembly, the upper gearbox was frozen and rusted- looked like it may got water inside. My question is: will a 2nd generation alpha 1 bolt up to my bellhousing? If possible, what would I need to do to convert? Thanks

No, the Gen II is not a direct bolt on replacement. While some say that it can be done by replaceing a few parts, I know of no one that has actually done it. Stick with the proper type drive and you will be a lot better off. You might also want to replace the bellows, it may very well be the reason there was water in the drive.
