I had a roller bearing come apart on the crank of a yamaha 2001 60 2 stoke.Local mech told me that the crank is one whole assembly and needs to be replaced which is about $700 or more. With the gasket kits, a new piston, and labor I'm looking at about $2500 + to repair. That sounds pretty steep to me.Just wanting to know if that's about right or not?

Not a Yamaha expert but about 16 years ago I paid $800
to have one cylinder bored and replace one piston and rings on a 88 50 hp Evinrude. This was done by an excellent long time dealer that was known to be a little expensive.Factory trained techs etc.

Re: does this sound right?

depends
call Ackermann marine in Wilmington NC.
they have rebuilt several built up cranks for me over the years.
depends on which bearing it was. they can press the crank apart and replace jounals(crankpins) and reassemble it.
last 3 cyl they did cost about 400 dollars for 2 pins,2 mains and 2 rods.
800 wont hardly cover the labor anymore :(.
I think OCC does them as well.
and UPS delivers.
I ups the crank to them, they call and tell me what it will cost,I send payment and a week later the big brown truck is at the shop.
you can also look at the iboats suppliers for a reman powerhead
