cuts out after starts

hello all I have a model j90tlcrd think its around 1984-85 90hp.I am haveing trouble keeping it running it starts up runs for about 3-4 secs then dies . I have rebuilt carbs cleaned all fuel lines .I have good spark and good compression replaced primer bulb.Not sure what else to try. I also cleaned screen on fuel pump.think this could poss be my problem .please help !!!!!

Do a pressure, and vacuam test on the fuel system. I spoke to soon, you can't do that in 3, or 4 second's. You could be loseing spark, check all connections.

will do ,what should the press be at ?I wont be home till tomarrow. Was not able to test the fuel pump got to late.Im hoping thats it what is.seems like a fuel issue .thx

See if you can keep the engine running with a squirt bottle of mixed fuel. Fuel pressure will run around 3-4 lbs, vacuam should not exceed 4 ins.

will try. I forgot to mention that I can keep it going with the eletric choke have to push it in every 3 sec or so

Then you have a fuel delivery problem.

If it stays running when you pump the bulb by hand, you've got a fuel pump problem.

did you use rebuild kits, could be a float stuck.

I did use a rebuild kit. carbs were clean before i rebuilt cleaned it anyway I thought that it was gummed up from the start but afterI rebuilt it ran the same.I also tried pumping the ball while I ran It.did not seem to make a diffrence.I will try it again tommarrow thanx for the help

check fuel lines and vent lines
could be fuel pump
are u running on an aux tank?

I do have a aux tank . I went ahead and checked the carbs again .also took off the intake manifold all the vacuum nipples & lines were full off tar. Im picking up the fuel pump rebuild tomorrow. hope that was it .thax again for the help ill let you know if that was it.
