Oh gosh, the liberals are clueless. Don't you know that raising the minumum wage will just increase prices for everybody? Who makes minimum wage? High school kids flipping burgers!! I don't want to pay more for everything I buy to put a few more bucks in the pocket of an irresponsible, pimple faced kid who will simply blow the money on junk.

I'm sorry, but dems, you're really showing why the donkey is your parties mascot.

I understand your point. But if you were right, every place paying minimum wage would be closed because their workforce is in class.

Where are high school kids still flippin burgers?Mostly middle age hispanics where I live.Anyway,raising the minimum wage will be the democrats first promise to the majority of their voting pool.

Something else to consider, minimum wage jobs are low skill jobs. Those jobs should only be used as a slingshot for you to gain more skills and move up to higher paying jobs without goverment help.

Oh yea, and high school kids drop out. So they're available to work during the day, at least where I'm from.

Do you know how pathetic that sounds?

Do an analysis of the work force. Take a look at who is really working those low wage jobs. It is mostly minorities and old people.

Maybe in Podunk Arkansas it is all kids but in the rest of the country it is people who are desperate to feed their families. People who don't have time to further their education because they are working two jobs trying to take care of their families.

The only thing that makes me sick more than a bleeding lib is a greedy selfish republican.

Raising min wage causes unemployment. Payrolls are based on a percentage of sales. You cannot pay people more than you make. Raising prices is not a solution. Small businesses have to keep their prices low to compete with the large chains. In order to make more money and raise wages a business has to increase sales. In order to increase sales prices have to competitive.
Contrary to the modern liberal educationists' thinking, competition is an important part of our society and economy.

Raising the minimum wage will make the U. S. even more attractive to them and allow unscrupulous employers to attract them with "under the counter" wages.

A few years back I used to pay a neighbor High School kid $5.00 and hour cash to do various odd jobs around my shop. It would be sporadic as projects would come up that needed done. Each time I needed him he could work a fair number of hours, at his pace, to get the list of tasks or specific project done.

One day, after he had finished a couple of hundred dollars of work, he came to me and demanded that I pay him the Oregon minimum wage which was $6.00 an hour. I took back his check, re-added the amount, deducted Soc. Sec. and Medicare and sent him on his way never to use him again. Many of those jobs ended up going undone as the business could not afford that luxury.

How many other kids might be hired, especially in down and out neighborhoods if were not for the Democrat's attempt at making the minimum wage a 'living wage'?

Rick is absolutely correct. A 40 percent increase in the minimum wage will be felt by all.

I am assuming that's aimed at me, since I made the comment referencing Podunk Arkansas.

To answer your question: No, I do not live in a city of 250,000 people.

I live in the Washington DC metropolitan area, which has a population of 5,900,000. Last year we added 75,000 new residents. The District alone has a population of 580,000.

I suppose this clears up a few things though. It may be quite possible that in an area of only 250,000 people, most of the minmum wage recipients are pimple face teenagers. Come to DC and you will see otherwise.

To address the flawed logic in some of the other arguements posted:
Show me where raising the minimum wage has caused mass unemployment on a wide scale (don't tell me about your daddys brothers friend...).

True, prices will go up. But that's Good News! Those making more than minimum wage can afford a few more pennies on the bill AND those with the new found raise will be able to purchase more goods!

As far as the unfair advantage to small businesses whose labor costs will rise.... big business will have to raise there pay as well.

Please stop quoting textbook economics here. A lot of us went to college and we really don't need the high school version thrown at us.

The danger isn't what the minimum wage will be, nor is it what maximum executive compensation might be. The danger is the fact that the government is deciding what YOU are worth in the work place. Ultimately that means the government will dictate what your lifestyle will be, where YOUR children will go to school (more likely where they won't go), etc, ad nauseam.

Sorry, but work place compensation is not the business of government! And God only knows what other facets of YOUR life Nancy Pelosi (D,San Francisco) and her pals will get into before it's said and done. That's the ultimate danger, not what some pimple-faced kid or illegal chica gets paid for cooking fries.

I dont believe in a minimum wage, only in a livable wage, something a person could reasonable live on in the region of their employment.

Flipping burgers at big macs can easily pay a living wage to every employee if there is a cap on executive compensation. No one needs an obscene annual salary in the hundreds of millions of dollars. That is just stupid, and made even more so by our allowing it.

In Japan everyone makes a living wage. Upper management salary is less than $100k, typically around $70-$80k. If you want more money, you need to own the business. Many successful businesses are started by people that did not pass their college entrance exams. If you want to get in line and be a worker bee, you will be comfortable and happy. If you want to apply yourself and take chances, the rewards can be great, and if you fail, you can always get work at a living wage, flipping burgers.

Sure, the gov will dictate that you're worth more than 50 cents a day, that your lifestyle doesn't have to be one of utter despair and poverty, and that you might even have a few bucks to pay for education supplies!

Do you feel good about yourself when you go to a store and purchase goods from someone who can't feed their family? Do you like to swing thru the drive up window and order mass quantities of fat-and-starch while the person serving you can't feed their family? What is wrong with you? Where is your heart?

This is America and if someone is willing to work all day they ought to be able to take care of their family. We're not talking about fancy cars and gold watches here. We're talking about food and shelter. Is that too much to ask in your America?

HMmmm off the books, guess you couldnt get an illegal to do the job eh? But back to the point. Around here the pimply face kids that work in the hamburger joints, keep the tire shops, mechanics, rather busty replacing there tires and transmissions on there cars. The state of Missouri voted in a statewide minimum wage with a cost of living, dont think that anyone around here will even notice it.
