Just needed some advice. Looking at buying an older boat with a 1982 200hp Mercury. It says "offshore" in red letters on the cover. Was told that it was re-built about 1 year ago. I have always owned Evinrude/Johnson. Is this Mercury a good engine? Are there any known problems? I really love the boat, but not sure whether to buy or not because I guess I am "scared" of the motor. Any insight would be great. Thanks alot!

Re: 1982 200hp mercury

Ive owned alot of older mercs like 115's, 150's, 200's and so on. There a really nice motor. Ive always had good luck with mercs. They rev really nice and go fast if you have it set up right. I have nothing but good things to say about Mercs! There really a nice motor. Before buying the motor check it over like compression and prop for dings and stuff. If it was rebuilt a year ago the compression should be fine but id check it to be sure.

hope this helps

Al
