Hey guys i am new here so hello to everyone.. Anyways i have a 1976 25hp rude which is tiller control, i converted it to remote controled with some parts i found. My question is how can i disengage or remove the tiller control itself to make the throttle have less strain.. I see the cogs at the joint on the tiller, is there a trick to disengage them? Ive searched and searched and havent found my answer...

Re: disengaging tiller control 76, 25hp

Hi Devans,
Two choices... Either remove the tiller handle itself or just remove the motor-side gear and shaft. If you remove the tiller handle, I would ALSO remove the other gear and shaft.
To remove the tiller handle, first remove the grip and the sleeve with the slow-fast lettering. Under the sleeve are two screws and nuts. Remove them. Remove the single larger screw near the pivot of the tiller. The handle ought to come apart in two halves.
To remove the motor-side gear and shaft, remove the single screw at the throttle arm end, behind the fuel connector. Pull the gear and shaft out the front. Remove the throttle gear that held the screw. To remove with the tiller in place, the tiller must be in the full up position.
