I just bought a project boat with a 175 Evinrude 1991. I am not getting any spark on all cylinders. I dont see a kill switch on the boat. The motor is in neatral (shaft spins both ways) Shifter appears to be in neautral? Is there a kill of some kind on this motor? Colors of wires for kill? Do I bridge those wires together? Any tests I can try? Thanks for any help
the kill wires are black and black/yellow
disconnect one from harness and check spark
if spark now present problem boat side of wiring (the old style controls have a thether cord switch near key switch should have button pushed in for operation)
i think (can't remember) there were 2 versions of 175's back in 91 please give model number
There does not appear to be a black with yellow stripe I will check better today maybe the wires are just dirty could it be a different color on that model number?
Location: Port Charlotte FL (almost -- its coming along)Never mind - it'll never be the same

Re: 1991 175 Evinrude No Spark on any cylinder
Just unplug the large red cannon plug and check spark. Do not try to start the motor, just check spark. If it has spark now, the problem is in the boat harness, key switch or kill switch.
I tried to check spark with the plug disconnected and a jumper from + terminal on battery to bottom of starter. It did not turn the motor over as quickly but i still did not see spark .For the ground I just left the neg wire connected to battery. Was I supposed to jump to th solenoid does it make a difference? Thanks again
connect jumper wire from the large terminal of solenoid where battery cable connects to small terminal with yellow/red wire on it
motor should crank and if big red plug un-done it should have spark
note: start in gear protection is eliminated with red plug removed so remove prop for saftey reasons
also buy a service manual it will help with trouble shooting and repair
