We just got a Boat Lift. The boat is hard to get off the
lift. We were trying to put the boat in reverse and tried to
gun the engine to get it off the lift. The boat goes into
reverse fine but when we try to gun it the engins shuts off
mercruiser apha 1 ,quick silver --bayliner rendevous

seems to run fine inother condtions. when we come to
the dock in the water we use reverse and it works fine however we are not trying to gun the engine at such
a high speed.
any ideas

Re: Reverse Throttle Shuts engine down

Your lower shift cable is out of adjustment and trying to go too far into reverse. Which means you are also not going completely into fwd.
When you go into reverse and throttle, the reverse goes too far, the cable binds and causes the shift interrupt switch to activate.
I would give you a link to a free online manual, but don't have a clue what you actually have. A year would help, is it a straight Alpha I, or an Alpha I Gen II?

I beleive it is a straight Alpha 1- 1999
Is the lower shift cable adjustment very difficult?
