I have been using the 3M 5200 for my deck to hull joint and some other joints below the deck and it seems to be a really great product, but with a price to pay. Coming to the end of my second tube I find myself wondering if another tube will be necessary for my deck joints.

The remaining joints are in very solid areas so the flexiblility and adheisive nature of the sealant does not have to be that great???? They will also be sealed after paint.
Its not really the end of the world if i buy another $15 tube if it is the superior product for the job, just wondering how yall do it.

4200. It is a sealant without the adhesive properties of 5200, might work out for ya.

I do believe that 5200 and 4200 are very close in price. Get the right stuff and spend the money it will be worth it.

I just bought a tube at Wal-Mart back in the marine section for I believe $4.98. The 4200 was about a buck cheaper. I believe its a 3-4 ounce tube. Not sure what size you are buying. I use it to waterproof any screws going into the hull and also to fill any small gashs in the fiberglass. Seems to take some time to harden (days).

I believe 5200 is recommeded for repairs below the water line. 4200 is not.

Not having it in front of me, seems I remember that one of these (think it was 4200) said on the box that is it not for use below the water line or under water.

Anyone know about this?

It doesnt sounds like it will be below the water line on this boat.... and if you have to split the deck and hull again... have fun with that 5200! I have seen it rip the gel coat off with it.

FWIW, I saw 10 oz. carts of 5200 in Home Depot the other day for $7 and change...
